Bottoms Up Beer MugHave you heard about the new exhibit being shown at the Joliet Area Historical Museum? If you’re a beer lover or a history buff or best of all both, you’re sure to enjoy all this new exhibit has to offer. It’s appropriately called “Bottoms Up: The History of Brewing in Joliet.”

You definitely won’t want to miss this one, especially when you hear what John Bittermann, the main historical contributor to this unusual display, has to say about  the healthy, nutritious nature of beer.

Guys, keep that one in your back pocket to remind your partner about just how healthy you truly are. And you can even use that as part of your reason for heading over to the Joliet Area Historical Museum to check everything out for yourself. Hey, why not? You can learn how to stay healthy and find out about this important part of history all at the same time.

But seriously, I was surprised to discover some of these facts about the history of brewing in Joliet. For instance, did you know  that the brewing industry spanned 120 years of history in our community with the first brewery, the Bluff Street Brewery, opening it’s doors in 1838 all the way to 1958 with the closing of the Bohemian Brewing Co? This means there are probably many younger folks who never even knew about the brewing that went on for such a long time right here in Joliet.

I guess that’s what makes this exhibit at the Joliet Area Historical Museum so special. We can all discover things about Joliet that we never even heard of and even enjoy ourselves while were at it. Oh and take the ladies along with you as they will love the beautiful etched glasses and painted trays.

Okay, here are the particulars. The museum is located at 204 N. Ottawa St. So head downtown and check it out and do it soon as this brewing exhibit will be gone after January 4, 2009. And for more information you can visit their website at: http://www.jolietmuseum.org/
