empress-fireThe total impact of the Joliet Empress Casino fire last week is still unknown. The fire didn’t damage the main casino but it’s not certain how long it will take to get the gambling facility back into operation at this point.

This set back for the casino will also be felt by the entire community. Revenue from the Booming casino business has supported many projects for our community for many, many years.

In fact, it’s safe to say that the Joliet community has depended on this income to keep lots of important and necessary programs running smoothly and then some.

With the recent downturn in the economy revenues for the casino have slowed as well. The whole community has been feeling the impact of this slow down but now this new blow to the casino owners will be felt by much of the community especially if things aren’t back up and fully functional sooner rather than later.

In fact, the sentiment expressed by all is the sooner, the better.

The good news in all of this is that the Empress General Manager, Frank Quigley, believes that the casino could possibly come back “bigger and better” when it does reopen. Now let’s all count on that scenario and hope for the best, sooner rather than later.
