As the weather improves and we’re all venturing into the outdoors once again, I know many here in Joliet, IL begin to think about auto racing. And since we have several race tracks right here, there is no need to venture out very far for the excitement and thrills that auto speedways provide.
Joliet, IL Route 66 Raceway…

Route 66 Raceway has been holding auto races right here in Joliet since 1998 in their multimillion-dollar complex. They offer a 1/4-mile drag strip with seating capacity for 30,000 spectators. It’s a sight to be seen.
Or if you’re more into dirt track racing they offer seating for 10,000 at their 1/2-mile oval dirt track.
They host NHRA Drag Racing, car shows, bracket racing, monster trucks, demolition derbies, outdoor concerts and much more. And I even found a video of jet racing at the Joliet Route 66 Raceway that you can take a look at below:
Now, that had to be quite a sight to be seen live. That car took off so fast my eyes can hardly keep up with it.
I enjoy the auto races myself but my favorites are the demolition derbies and the monster trucks. I think they are absolutely fun to watch. Which ones are your favorites?
Joliet, Illinois Chicagoland Speedway…
Next, on our list is the Chicagoland Speedway. It’s located at 500 Speedway Blvd. in Joliet right next to their sister track the Route 66 Raceway. Chicagoland Speedway, which opened in 2001, is the newer addition to Joliet Illinois racing. It’s now the largest sporting facility in our Illinois state. I’ll bet you didn’t know that. Its NASCAR, INDY Car Series of races that are held throughout the summer are just about always sold out so make sure to get your tickets well in advance.
This $130 million, 1.5-mile, D-shaped tri-oval track is also home to the “Richard Petty Driving Experience.” This means they allow fans to ride along or they can even drive a NASCAR stock car around the track. So, come on down and take a test drive.
Joliet, IL Autobahn Country Club…
Of course there is always the AutoBahn Country Club for those of you that would really rather get behind the wheel and be a part of the actual race. They offer group and individual events and kart racing as well.
