With the difficulties many Joliet, IL businesses are facing in these turbulent economic times, the thought on the mind of most people is what will happen with their own Joliet job.

You know they say, “A recession is when your neighbor loses their job but a depression is when you lose your own job.” I don’t know who said it but I do know it has been said.

Things are looking bleak for many this holiday season with unemployment on the rise. This is hitting the Greater Joliet community quite hard and things don’t seem to be expected to turn around any time soon. The latest numbers out on what local businesses expect in the near future don’t look very promising either. In fact, most Joliet businesses when asked said they plan to remain status quo or reduce the number of employees in the first part of next year.

With the job losses creeping upward and fewer new Joliet jobs on the horizon it can be a tough situation indeed. The areas where it’s expected that jobs will be reduced include those in many branches of the government, hospitality, business services, leisure time activities and within professional occupations.

Is There a Bright Spot or Two on the Horizon?

However, there are some bright spots when you look for them. So, it might be a good idea for those who find their area of expertise to be among the categories laying off workers to look into a career change.

Change when looked at from a different perspective can be a good thing. In fact, another thing most of us hear said quite often is, “When one door closes, another one opens.” Once again, I don’t know who said it but it has been said.

Bright Spots In The Joliet Job Market For You To Consider…

Employment opportunities within health care and education have continued to rise and there are many places where other jobs are readily available. They also say the computer software industry remain open to newly trained and experienced workers alike.

It also looks like construction and even some manufacturing of durable and non durable goods could be additional places to consider in the Joliet job market. And surprisingly they even say some areas of the financial markets will be on the lookout for new employees.

So, don’t lose all hope if things are looking bleak for your job in the Joliet area. You know they say, “It’s always darkest just before dawn.” So, be on the lookout for those opening doors or just maybe, “Opportunity will come knocking.”
