If you haven’t been down there yet, maybe it’s time to check it out…
I’m talking about the Mexican marketplace on Collins Street located on the east side of Joliet, IL. This is a tight knit community of retail stores that seems to be thriving in spite of our recent recession.
In fact, according to the article featured in the Chicago Tribune this week written by e:
“It has gotten so promising that in November, the state tourism bureau awarded a $100,000 grant to the Joliet City Center Partnership to begin redeveloping the parking lot of the Collins Street Prison, the empty jail featured in “The Blues Brothers.”
The project is the first phase of a plan to turn the jail into a tourist attraction.”
